"Reading? Reading?" from an old radio show

Can anyone recall which radio show - and we're talking the '40s or '50s here - had a character, possibly a station announcer calling out "Reading? Reading?" (as in the place in Berkshire). My dad used to say it as a catchphrase, and it turns out that my girlfriend's dad did too! Both have passed on so we can't ask them...

I don't know the answer but have used a Google search and there are loads of sites that give details of old radio programmes.

You will take years to wade through them all but the programme should be there - somewhere.
