You probably know that Simon William's character (Charles Wickham) was responsible for the murders and he managed to escape by knocking out his guard in the house and he vanished. After a week our two heros returned to the house and DC Travis opened a floor vent in Mrs Hedges (Sylvia Syms') room and jumped back from the smell. Under the wooden steps leading up to her room they found the dead Charles Wickham who had, presumably staved: died of thirst.

They decided not to investigate further even though they knew it was Mrs Hedges who was responsible and they all went off into the sunset. The end.
I'm not sure actually how I felt about it. For such a gory and violent programme I didn't think there was any closure. The older daughter attacked two police officers and no one did anything and there was no real background to why he was so violent. It left too much unanswered for me.

Good ol' Mrs H.

A bit of a let-down ending then really?

Thanks mike and jan xx
Also travis kissed her boss, it seemed to have no relevance to the story. It could have easily been a two part programme instead of three.
