old movie title

I am trying to find out the name of an old movie (maybe 1950's) about an older brother who had to pull his orphaned brothers and sisters through the snow on a sled and give them to other families after their parents die. I thought it was something like The Long Walk Home but I can't find anything with that title.

Cant help you with an answer,but,i've def seen something like that scenario in the last couple of years. Dont think it was made in the 50s though,a more modern movie about an event then?

Who will love my children - Sally Anne fields I believe, very very sad.But wasn't 50's.
