does any one on here use "skype?"

my niece in aussie can hear me clearly, but cant see me.

I can see her , but not hear her at all.

I only have a cheap plastic looking microphone --could this be the prblem?

i have a webcam, but should i get a cam and mike all in one? many thanks x

only "skyped" a couple of times but i think regarding to the picture you must make sure your permissions allow other users to view you! Its a great free way to speak to relatives especially far away one's

Sounds like you need a new one or get a head set with microphone attached. I chat with my kids in OZ and I can see and hear them fine.

I take it you both have web cams. If not they can be bought quite cheaply from the likes of Amazon.

I use skype and these roblems do occur, often from user error!

The see but can't hear is often that the sound is turned down too low or switched off altogether. Make sure that your sound is turned up and that her microphone is OK and switched on, also make sure your microphone is in the correct connection - I found once couldn't hear nbecause I had accidentally plugged the microphone into the headphone socket.

You should rune the tests on the camera to make sure it is picking up the picture before you contact her!

its really been a mystery for us to know what is wrong between us on skype.
I have decided to go to local shop and hopefully buy an inexpensive headset with microphone tomorrow. many many thanks for replies x

i did check that the plug was in the right place for microphone. The sound was turned on, and my speakers are in good working order.
I could see her clearly on screen, and she said that she could even hear me breathing , haha.

so --off to buy headset tomorrow to cure the problem x

hiya --just to let you know that after i said that i would go out and buy a new webcam, microphone etc , i didnt have to after all! I hesitated that morning, and so glad that I did. I had 2 phone calls from 2 different people that morning, and i could see and hear them straight away. So the problem was not with me, but with the first person that I had spoken to the previous 2 days. so whooppee for me. thought I'd let you know and to say thank you for your answers x pusskins
