Does anyone else remember a sitcom during the 70's with the above title?  I'm trying to remember what the name of the actor who played the young man, I think his characters'  name was Carter?  It was a sitcom similar to Last Of The Summer Wine and was broadcast soon after LOTSW started.  The reason I am asking is because he was at my local shopping centre recording an ad, I think.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Yes, very funny series - you can get a version on BBC audio tapes. Keith Drinkel lives in Brighton, so maybe that's where you are.

Respect to Uncle Mort - "I heard that.. pardon".

.

kempie ! exactly what i was about to type !!!!

thats about the only thing i can remember about it as i was very young

it was actually uncle staveley who said 'i heard that pardon'  he used to carry the ashes of his army commander. i seem to think uncle morts catchphrase was 'i served all through first world war'. what was the actress who played carters girlfriend

Uncle Staveley was played by Bert Parnaby, married in real life to Lynne Carol who played Martha Longhurst, the lady who memorably dropped dead in front of Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell in the Rover's Return.

The creator of all this was the late Peter Tinniswood - there must be a lot on Google.

A great line from that still make me smile, from  one of the old female characters,  who moaned a lot saying, when she was offered a glass of beer.

''I'm not drinking out of that glass, its too damp.''

Tee Hee.

Carter was also played by Peter Skellern in a couple of "shorts" some sort of travelogue type items as i remember.
Carter's girlfriend was played by Anita Carey.
You get all 4 series on DVD now. First 2 series were great but struggled after that.
Anita Carey was in Corrie and later Doctors on BBC1 for which she won an award.
