A question for any police officers out there

I'm working on a screenplay for part of my M.A. research and am trying to make sure that my portrayal of police procedures is as accurate as possible.

The scenario concerns a suspect who loses control of their car during a pursuit. They are not injured other than, say whiplash and bruising. In one of the pursuing vehicles is a D.I. who is investigating the case.

First of all - is this accurate? Would a D.I. be involved in a pursuit? Secondly, in terms of questioning - who would take the suspect in? How long would it take before they were interviewed, and what intervening steps would need to take place between their arrest and the interview (medical exams, etc)? How would they be brought in - would a van be called or would one of the pursuing cars take them in?

A lot of questions, I know; but I thought that rather than watch, say, The Bill, and get my information third-hand, it would be better to go straight to the source.

Since nobody has answered this there are probably no police ABers...!!! I suggest you go into your local police station and ask if they'd be willing to answer a few questions for you concerning your M.A. research when they have the time.

I've got a few mates who are rozzers so i'll ask them, but as said before your best bet is contacting your local force and asking them direct, or trying some of the Police forums out there

I would stringly suggest that a DI would not be involved in a pursuit as they wear plain clothes and drive ordinary unmarked cars. Traffic officers have both marked and unmarked vehicles, the unmarked have hidden blue lights etc.
A marked vehicle normally transfers the accused to the station but in the case you say the person has suffered injury and would deffinately be taken to hospital in an ambulance for treatment, once at the hospital they would be de-arrested and bailed to attend the station at a later date, if drink or drugs were suspevted then the police have the power to take blood at the hospital.
