Dog Attacks

My yorkshire terrier was attacked last night by another dog while he was been brought for a walk. The other dogs owner had the dog off the lead and done nothing to help my dad free our dog from his dogs grip. My dog is very badly shaken and was cut by this dog and an immediate trip to a veterinary hospital was needed. My dog will be ok as will my dad who was bitten by this dog, thank God however I'm infuriated by the attitude of this man!

He eventually grabbed his dog and my dad called for him to not run away as it wasn't right especially after my dog was badly attacked by his dog who was off the lead. This man shouted at my dad to f*** off and scurried away to his house my dad was baffled and noticed which house the man had went into so after he returned from the vet hospital he went to speak to this man. The man answered the door shouted a torrent of abuse and expletives at my dad and slammed the door in his face.

I'm just wondering has anyone else been in a similar situation and if so how did you deal with things and what steps did you take afterwards? I keep thinking what if the dog attacked a small child or someone else? I love my dog and was so upset on hearing this. Should this man offer to pay the vet bill and hospital bill? Should this man be reported to some kind of authority? What should we do?

My dog is not aggressive in nature at all, he is so placid and friendly and a real pet. I appreciate your advice and reading this post.

Yes, report it to the police. Next time, the offending dog could maul a child. The police should take the incident quite seriously, particularly given the attitude of the dog's owner and his lack of responsibility.

Don't know what the question is particularly, seems fairly obvious the police should be called if you believe the other dog to be dangerous to me.

really you should have reported to the police immediately, If the police classed the dog owner to be at fault it would help your case for a small claim at court.

Why on earth did you dad go around to confront them instead of calling the police

I had an altercation this very morning with a very agressive Italian chap on the beach. I was on there first, he came walking towards me with his dog, let his dog off the lead, his dog then proceeded to chase mine. His was a humungus Alsation, my dog is small by comparison. His dog then squatted down and squeezed one out, and when I pointed to the mess, his owner went beserk, screaming and shouting and told me I needed to keep more control over my dog. My dog was too busy hiding behind my legs to misbehave. My flab was well and truly gastered.

I wish I had done now, Bob. The dog was quite sweet tho and didn't mean Alf any harm really. But the bloody cheek of his owner saying my dog needed to be kept under control !! Alf was the one being chased, not the other way around.

To be honest, your dog could've have killed the German Shepard.....the big one could have choked on him lol
