can anyone remember who sung a song out years ago called its horrible being in love when your 8 and half

Oh no!  I thought I was the only one that remembered that little cockney girl!  It was about 1983 I think, I remember hearing it in woolworths.

That awful song! I think I was around 8 when that came out, and even I hated it!!!!

It was by Claire & Friends.

It was "It's Horrible Being In Love When You're 8 and a half" by Claire & Friends, it was an entry in the Saturday Superstore Search For A Superstar competition and I think it won. They were from Stockport, and the song was written by Mick Coleman, alias the Michael of Brian & Michael (of "Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats And Dogs" fame). Claire Usher released a follow-up single "Superman" which carried on the story of Claire and Jimmy from "It's Horrible...", and an album "Super Claire" that turned up in 50p bins for years afterwards.

Saturday Superstore's 'Search For A Superstar' has alot to answer for!

They also received an entry from a young girl wanting to sing "Chick-Chick, Chick-Chick Chicken". However, being only three years old at the time, she was ineligible for the competition as she was too young.

They went ahead and broadcast her singing her song anyway, and, I believe, were inundated with requests to repeat this cute-to-the-point-of-vomiting performance, and indeed, she went on to perform it on TOTP. Whilst in the Superstore studio, she allegedly asked Boy George to take her to the toilet, as she thought he was a woman!

The young girl was named Natalie Casey, and can now be seen in 'Two Pints of Lager and A Packet of Crisps' amongst other things.

 Not strictly relevant but Claire Ushers dad taught me maths so we got to listen to it at school too. She was indeed from Stockport.

PS I heard she changed her surname and was in Riverdance. Not sure whether it's true though.
