Noth3....I've already tried the pup with great amusement and, whilst he/she does a good job on the inside of the screen, I am left with the outer surface still to be cleaned. Consequently I go along with your second posting. Furthermore,I think oscarina's suggestion is excellent.
boxtops...How do you clean your screen if you are not allowed to use a doggie.??!!

I am pleased deggers316 that you approve of my using a smidgen of washing-up liquid and ,bearing in mind what Noth3 has said about the possibility of scratching with a wood fibre product, a soft cloth appears to be necessary with a gentle touch. However, I am starting to think that perhaps spectacle cleaner , as suggested by oscarina and scotman could be the answer.... I must therefore check-out products such as Safeclens.

Elvis, I've tried spit and polish but it's not the answer...possibly because I am a smoker. Consequently, I regret saying deggers that it could be a little more than just static grime.
Anyway the screen is perfect at the moment because I cleaned it earlier this evening as indicated in my question. Although, henceforth I think I shall avoid using kitchen paper and apply gentle pressure with a cloth that has a smidgen of washing-up liquid on it.
