there is a bright green comet visible for the next week or so...it is comet2009r1 look north north west you will see a bright yellow star low down in the sky [capella]....and the comet will pass as a green glow from right to left....this is the first and last time you will ever be able to see this comet...9information provided by the daily mail...not me...lol]....happy viewing....

wow, I saw the transit of venus when I was in middle school, which won't be seen for hundreds of years.

Do you know what time? or will it slowly (well appear to be slow to us) pass during the night? I haven't got school tomorrow so it doesn't matter if it's late.

Where I live there is too much light pollution - I always miss the cool things. =(

There's a tiny bit of light pollution to the south east of me, but nothing from the other town to the south west (too small) so I have just about a clear sky all around.

I few weeks ago, I was round my brothers, and we were disputing whether we could see a planet (to the west I think) with not a very high elevation. Because I'd done about this kind of thing in triple physics, I could convince them that it must be, because it was moving much quicker than the other stars, and it didn't twinkle.

How many times a night will it pass? It's not sun by a NASA computer and so obviously it's not that predictable!!

These are the only evening sightings of the spacestation this month but can still be seen am times.
wednesday 23rd 11 16 pm for 2 minutes viewing

thursday 24th 11 42 pm for 4 minutes

friday 25th 10 34pm for 3 minuters

sunday 27th 11 27pm for 4 minutes

monday 28th 10 18pm for 4 minutes

monday 28th 11 53 pm for 4 minutes

According to Mail Online and Wikipedia, Comet 2009R1 can be seen in the northern hemisphere as follows: Best time to view comet is on night of June 22. Wait until it gets dark; go out into your garden; take binoculars; look towards north-north-west; find bright yellow star (Capella) low down in the night (that's exactly what Mail says, so I don't know if it means "to the right" or "in the night sky"); 2009R1 passes close by, as a green glow, from right to left. View at dawn and dusk, near horizon.
