I think I preferred the episode where Cassandra lost her baby and Del punched that whinging yobbo in the face. When he did that, he punched him for every one of us.
I don't think we could have cried and empathised with Del & Rodney in the later episodes without having gone through all the other, lighter times with them. They became like family to millions of us. Many comedies just can't do that these days. They don't seem to be able to get under the skin of the 'little man' somehow. Is that, I wonder, because too many of us have had less impoverished childhoods than the the writers of some of the best comedies?
