A guy i know did some wrought iron fencing work 5k in a garden makeover programme - he had to do the work for half price and in return he got a credit on the website (not on the programme). The lady whose garden was being made over - happened to be the producers daughter and to my knowledge he never saw a penny of the 2.5k owed.
My friends friend lived on a house boat and looked into getting a make over on that - he was told it would cost around 20k and that it was only the designer that he got for free. The designer would only have been there for 1/2 a day's filming.
Lastly one of the Gordon Ramsey programme was in a hotel which again the same friend knows and frequents. They had a delivery of partridge, which Gordon Ramsey went out to and declared that it wasn't fresh enough. They then phoned the company up an hour later and asked them to re-deliver the partridge, the supplier - being rather peeved - asked to speak to GR, who obligingly came on the phone and said "yes sorry mate, there was nothing wrong with the partridge, it was just for the cameras"
I am a fan of these make over programes but this has dissapointed me somewhat.
