I am affected by Restless Legs and frequently restless arms mainly at night but also during the day. It rules my life and I'm now on my 11th drug which is Ropinirole. This works brilliantly at night but I can't take it during the day because it makes me very tired ( dangerous to drive etc). It's a lifesaver at night, but I need to have a life during the day too. I can't go for meals, I can't go to the cinema, even standing in queues is pure torture. I have tried Amitriptylline, Gabapentin, Baclofen, and 7 others that I can't remember the names of. I am trying to get another job, and I can't even apply for a desk job or any job that involves sitting for any length of time. Please help, I have lost a year and a half out of my life because of this curse.

If you are not against the smell of lavender - I know some people dislike it - rub on lavender body massage cream from Cyclax.Especially behind your knees and elbows.
Have you tried things like tubi grips?

I wear some at night when mine are bad and they have helped a lot.

Might be an idea to check with your Dr though if you would be wearing them a lot.
Hi Helen,
I'm not sure how much this will help you but have you tried using a product that contains horsechestnut? My Mum suffered years with restless legs, she read about using horsechestnut and got a roll on (I think it was) from her health food shop (it will be called or contain 'Aesculus Hippocastanum' which is the latin name for horse chestnut) which she put on all over her legs and it helps open up the cappilleries so circulation is improved (don't quote me but I think this is how it helps) She couldn't believe how well it worked and wishes she had found it years ago.
Like I say I'm not sure how much it will help you as you say you have it severe but you won't know unless you try it and if it does help then I know how much of a relief it will be for you having watched my Mum suffer with it.
Take magnesium suppliments.
Try Red Vine leaf food supplement. You can buy it in health food shops and some pharmacies under the name of Antistax.

It has been clinically proven to help with this problem. Bear in mind it will take a while to work as it's herbal and you need to build it up in your system first by taking it as indicated. Good Luck.
Helen,Iv'e had the problem for years...but a quarter of an aspirin always does the trick for me.
Have you tried drinking tonic water? I know the quinine in it is meant to help. Also, what about this?

Try the healing book report from Matthew Hubner at www.vegamagic.com - How I defeated the restless legs syndrome. Maybe this will work.

and speedy recovery
I was going to say what wingnut's already said - my MIL suffers really badly and she finds horse chestnut cream on her legs and she finds it really helpful.
