I think this series has been ruined by the addition of actual characters. It was much better with just a voiceover and the occasional hand. It seemed simpler and therefore more convincing and just better!  Does anybody else agree with me?

I totally agree. The first series was one of the best programmes I've ever seen and I was really excited to watch the new series. But it is absolutely nowhere near as good and I'm very disappointed!

And furthermore, you're dead right about the last series being "more convincing". Now all the jokes are far too obvious. The point about the first series was that it was a parody of those kinds of programmes in their day. Now it's just ridiculous and much less subtle. And I'm still very disappointed!

They are both just send-ups of 1970's/80's TV with the same programme title as it is from the same team of writers/performers.

I think of them as different series.

Just think of them as "Ripping Yarns" or "The Comic Strip presents...", a series that can parody any show/theme/era but with an umbrella title.

tonymclark - I know what they are and I know who writes and performs in them. And I do think of them as different series, seeing as that's what they are. I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.

Its a good series, makes me laugh. What makes it all the better is Olivia Colman. The Office, Peepshow  Bev + Kev adverts on tv. If you read this Olivia what you doing a week on Friday??
Also, there was a great cameo from 'the Actor' Kevin Eldon in the first episode of this series, surely he should have his own show by now.

Subtletey, thanks IndieSinger - it has lost all subtletey. I still think it is quite clever and funny but the first series was so understated, it was sublime.
