often watched g.mcewan in marple and know that she once turned down an OBE and also a DAME.anyone know why this was? thank you.

To the best of my knowledge, she never publicly stated a reason. (Many people reject the Honours system but don't wish to offend the Queen by openly criticising it).

But she's in good company (with, among many others, Trevor Howard, Alastair Sim, Albert Finney, Vanessa Redgrave, John Cleese and Jim Broadbent).
