TV Series about the paranormal
14 Answers
Trying to think of an old tv series, possibly bbc, that was about a group of students(?) who run a department and they all had special powers (ie esp, mind reading etc). Will probably remember it if someone comes up with some suggestions.
I thought it may have been Sea of Souls but having looked back at some of these episodes, and l don't think it was. That was about normal people who investigated the paranormal.
Damn, it's really annoying me now.

It was set in a city possibly London. I seem to remember one of the guys walking across a square and he sensed that he was being followed by some sort of spirit or demon? (wait a minute, demons? I'll go and check the first couple of them out. Maybe that was it?)
Quite a spooky series albeit modern.
Sorry it's so vague. It was in the genre of Sea of Souls

You say it's an "old series", then only "a year or so ago." ...
I thought it might have been Apparitions at first - the one with Martin Shaw as a priest investigating paranormal activity, but it doesn't fit your description at all.
The only other vaguely British supernatural series I can think of is Channel 4's "Misfits", about a group of kids doing community service and developing various powers after being struck by lightning. But they don't run a department ...
Do you know if it's British or American? Kids program or adult? Any distinctive looking actors?

Thanks Aqua and others.
I was re-watching the Sea of Souls series when this one sprung to mind. I'm sure it was a series in its own right, as opposed to an episode in another well known series.
It was English and an evening viewing (so it wasn't based at kids), possibly on a Saturday?
Like Sea of Souls, i'm sure it was a department based within a University. It could have been a scottish city, but l'm pretty sure it was London. Again, like Sea of Souls the team were tasked to investigate the paranormal. The difference between this series and Sea of Souls is that they each had some kind of power (mind reading, esp etc), which is why they were bought together as a team.
I'm saying no to all suggestions at the moment as l'm sure it wasn't any of them. Could be wrong though.
Someone drowned in a bath in a small flat?
Someone chasing an apparition through revolving doors and into a department store?
Damn it, sorry it's so vague. It'll come to me eventually.

I thought of Primeval as well, but they investigate creatures and not the paranormal, and none of them have any powers.
Everything you mention does point to it being Sea Of Souls! That's the only series I can think of set in Scotland, as you suggest it could be. The first series of SOS had normal characters, but they were replaced for the second and third series, which had the character of Justine, who seemed to develop some psychic abilities as the series progressed.

Thanks for all your help, and sorry for not replying sooner, very rude!
You were right Aqua, it's Sea of Souls.
I joined the series further along the line, so when l started watching the reruns,
series 1 didn't seem to be what l was looking for. Now l'm up to Series 3, what with the new characters, this is it.
Thanks very much for all your help.
