Am I alone in thinking this couple were selfish when they embarked on their jaunt, without a care for those who might miss them? Whilst I am very glad that they have been returned to this country at long last, if I had a father still alive at the age of 99, I would not have considered swanning off on a self indulgent cruise around the world, but would have considered it only right to be there so he could enjoy his son's company, conversation, taking him for days out and to my home for Christmas etc. in other words giving back to my aged parent something in their old age Instead they just decided to sell up and set out on an endless holiday. They do not appear to have any children so maybe they have always lived just for themselves. Backlash welcome!

No, I absolutely agree with you Star. I said as much yesterday. They were a little selfish, and very naive and foolish when they set off on their own rather than staying with a group or flotilla - these waters are well known to be subject to piracy - any yachtsman worth his or her salt knows this, and even though I am glad they are now free, they have to shoulder some of the responsibility. They were, at the least, irresponsible.

You want to hear Plaid's comments and opinion on this particular subject over on yacht boat world forum - hilarious. He is very outspoken and loves to ruffle feathers. You'd love him sqadlet - I'd entice him over here to stir things up a bit, but then he'd read what I put........ whoops! Better keep him away!
I find this to be a rather pointless and nasty exercise - a year+ from when they were taken.
yes-they may have been irresponsible and showed a lot of poor judgement regarding where they chose to sail-which they have more than paid for,I think.. But it seems incredibly mean-spirited to start criticising them now....just wish them well, and show a bit of compassion-which seems sorely lacking in some members of this site.

I find it hard to be sympathetic with the Chandlers. Our govt will, no doubt, get the blame for them not being rescued sooner - we will never really know the full story of what went on behind the scenes.
However they have been through a terrible ordeal and their life will never be the same again. I wish them well in the future.
