Just read this one on mse and it made me laugh .....
"If any of you have access to a vegetable market stall, they often chop off the surplus cauliflower stalks and toss to them one side. Ask them if you can have some for your (invisible) rabbit. They are excellent chopped up and cooked in with other mixed vegetables, simmered in water to make stock or gravy or chopped up and included in minestrone and vegetable soups".
Liqui wash tabs often come in plastic containers with snap on lids and they are great for small bits, like lego bricks or beads/buttons. A wire scourer takes the print off.
Hi mrs.c ;o) Many years ago I read an article by a millionairess on how I too could save myself so much money - yeah right! I read through tip after tip, thinking I don't want to eat the crusts off the back and front of my loaf! The article was really annoying me until I cam across the one that advised cutting my brillo pads in half. Brilliant idea too. I reckon it has saved me a few bob over the years and my kitchen scissors stay cleaner and are sharp all the while now. btw - I am no nearer being a millionairess but one cannot have everything !
Thanks for that, ttfn. I don't use Brillo pads as I have pans with some sort of coating on and they have to be washed gently. They're great though - very easy to clean.
Have I made myself sound like a bad cook mrs.c? LOL I use brillo pads for all manner of cleaning jobs, and they get my copper bottoms up something lovely :o)
Sign in to Freecycle. That's where I got my telly.
Buy a copy of "Food For Free" by Richard Maybey - it tells you all about 'wild food' and how to identify/prepare it.
Where I live there is an abundance of parasol mushrooms which make good eating and are easy to identify (plus almost impossible to confuse with anything poisonous).
Hi AP. I tried to sign in to Freecycle, I was trying to give my phones away. I got a message, something along the lines of "waiting for approval" ..... a week later, I'm still waiting!
Mrs Chappie - if you are getting that message it might be that someone has decided that you broke one of the rules somehow. E-mail the moderators and ask them.
I get these messages when I post because once I asked for something "desirable" (an old flat screen monitor) and that is against the rules. Freecycle (or Freegle) is generally brilliant IMO but if it has one tiny downside it does seem to attract mini Hitlers who seem to like being really anal about the rules.
I've tried to give lots of things away, even new things with the labels still on them, but nobody wants them. I came to the conclusion that everyone was too well off to want free stuff so I gave them to the charity shop.
ttfn I love the crusts off the end of the bread and always save them for myself they are lovely toasted. You could always save them and make a bread pudding with them. You only need six and they will keep in the freezer until you have saved enough. The millionairess became a millionairess by selling the book giving the hints. Like you, I can still find plenty of ways of spending any surplus cash and I shall never be a millionairess.
