how many of you A/Bers have been watching this ? I must say that I have enjoyed the series ( guess what, there was no bad language & nobody was in bed with somebodyelse's missus, whatever next ) Ron.

Absolutely loved this series. I did think that the grocer, forget his name, was a bit cocky though.

Brilliant series. A 1930's shop was supposed to have been set up near me in Louth this last weekend but had to be cancelled due to bad weather. I do hope that they do get a new date for it as I know my little boy would love it.

Agree with the grocer comment. So smug that his business had beat the others.

Unfortunately Mr Q and I only tuned in half way through the series - we tend to avoid what we think might be reality type programmes but I wish we had seen it from the beginning. We have thoroughly enjoed what we have wathec and hope the BBC re-run it so we can tune in. (The grocer bloke who ended up running a supermarket got on my nerves though) It was interesting to see how High Streets change over the decades - not always for the better it would seem.

I'm probably alone in the universe - but I found it annoying. I think it was the apprentice-style challenge talk at the beginning that gave me the ache. he concept of actually re-enacting the looks, smells, working methods etc of the past is great, but I am hacked off with the media presenting things as a mock challenge that they'll be marked and judged on. Just a me thing.

Thought it was brilliant! I remember as a child in the 70's going into our local shop and being served, there was no self service, was like that until the early 80's when the family who owned it sold up. They used to have sweets in jars that you got measured out into small paper bags. I guess we are all guilty of putting the high street out of business by using the convienience of the supermarket.

It was filmed up the road from me though unfortunately I did not realise that the shops were open to the public otherwise would have popped into them.

IMO, It had the potential to be awesome. Gregg Wallace spoiled it for me, I can't abide him.

I agree with Naz,
A very interesting idea &programme was spoilt by Greg Wallace.
He seems to see himself as a one man missionary for the reintroduction of food tec shops into the high streets of the UK.
Sadly you cannot go backwards,and most people are quite content with the large out of town supermarkets.
If people would patronise shops (as in the programme) they would spring up again,but people won't so the shops won't.

What I thought was interesting was the reaction of the shoppers to each of the eras - absolute horror during rationing when goods ran out!
