Apocalypse Now and the helicopters coming and up the valley to Wagner the Ring blasting out...it was shot in the Philippines about 30 miles south of Manila in a river valley/gorge famous for the canoe trip up the river to this small pond with a waterfall under which you can 'shower;' it takes about 3 hours to get up the river with a combination of paddling, being assisted by two porters and snack breaks - and then you come back in 45 minutes.
There are these wonderful lodges and houses on either side of the river in its lower reaches - the only trouble is that it is the Philippines centre for paedophilia......very nice - 4 miles around the corner is a small town making all the religious statues for their churches etc - there I managed to get into this wonderful crowd with all its fabulous colour and camera snapping, not realising the greater panorama; it was a funeral........

None of the films mentioned glorify war and all show the terrible suffering of the soldiers - in fact events in the Vietnam war cannot be glorified in any way IMO. I'm just saying I personally found Born on 4th July too distressing to watch again.
I'm well aware of what is happening to current soldiers.
