why - just curious what does he do?
I think that it is not what you have done but that you have lived until you are very old and thus become a 'national treasure'. They should abolish the system.
i just wondered if he does loads for charity or something as i can't see how he deserves one for poncing about on the telly
-- answer removed --
Yes he has been in the entertainment business for more than 50years and has managed to entertain without smut and foul language. Knighthoods for Chairmen British Gas and British Airways nice to be rewarded for strikes and mayhem etc.
OK, I agree with mcfluff, as many celebs get knighted and various gongs for giving to various charities and I applaud their work, but I think being made a Knight should be given to those brave men whom give their life in the defence of their country, not by earning millions of pounds enjoying fame and fortune.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody peeps.
Does he not already have obe &cbe .Would he keep them and be call Sir Bruce obe cbe nice to c u ccu nice
>should be given to those brave men whom give their life in the defence of their country

What, after they are dead?
never mind Kathy Kirby, what about Petula Clark? A massive contribution to the entertainment industry on an international scale, yet still no Dame for her...
VHG: Point taken, but I meant people like those whom do great and brave acts like digging up hidden mines to save their comrades.
Sir Eric Sykes ,Dame Liz Smith why not Eh !!
OMG here we go again..........

giving an honour to someone for doing their job is a complete insult to those who go above and beyond.

It is time this system was abolished.
I'm rather keen on an annual system of dishonours to be handed out to people who have commited a dishonourable public act, I'd like to start with polititians who have gone back on promises ( we will not raise student fees etc.)
"... giving an honour to someone for doing their job is a complete insult to those who go above and beyond. "

Same with the 'hero' monicker that's banded about so freely.

No Brucie shouldn't have got one. Nor, I suspect, should most of the people that will be honoured this year.

i agree it should be abolished
A few of the more deserved ones, I'm sure you'll agree ... pmsl

ROYAL VICTORIAN MEDAL (RVM)

David Gerald Hutchins. Horticulturalist, Crown Estate, Windsor.

Andrew Michael Jarvis. Fruit Farm Worker, Sandringham Estate.

Roger David Williams. Catering manager, Royal Train.
No.
Yes. The system exists, it's used in a certain way, and the man has entertained millions for decades.
I personally cant stand him. He has been extremely grumpy and rude to the audience on Strictly Come dancing and why applaud that ridiculous dance he does at the start and his corny corny jokes. He has been nasty on other years too. I remember when Jill Halfpenny won, her parents came to join the dancers congratulating Jill and he rudely told them to go back to their seats. So no he does not deserve a Knighthood and I agree with most of you that it should go to people who give service to this country and not through entertainment.
Dr Piers Sellers left the UK in 1982 and took American Citizenship so what do the British do? Make him an OBE. Astounding.
