Flora Thompson's Lark rise Trilogy

Has anyone read Flora Thompson's trilogy of books about Larkrise to candleford?

Love the tv series, thinking of trying the books.

I've always assumed that the narration at the begining of each episode (read by sarah Lancashire) was actual excerpts from Flora Thompson's diary's, Is that correct?

Read them long before the TV series - of which I've seen a few episodes but not really made a point of following. I get the impression that some of the episodes - particularly later ones - are only very loosely based on the books.

But do try the books - they are worth reading.

Not sure about the narration - I would imagine it's direct from the books, which are in narrative form. I didn't know her diaries (if they exist) had been published.

Sorry I thought these books were diaries (of sorts)
I assumed they were about Flora's life growing up in Oxfordshire!
Anyhow I have just ordered them...looking forward to reading them now :o)

I have just finished them and, lovely tho the tv series is, the base is very very loose indeed. They aren't diaries but a memoir written in the third person..much grittier and more honest than the tv program. They are non fiction.

I have just re-read them and they are much more true to life than the series. Lark Rise is a day's walk from Candleford (Juniper Hill to Buckingham in real life), and in the first series is was about 4 hours away. In the latest series they seem to walk backwards and forward several times a day!!
The real Dorcas was a spinster in her mid 50's and rather stout!
