Why have they left earth?

Well frankly, who cares? It's like a 21st Century Blakes 7 - as depressing as hell! Back to the bad old days when we were sure that wherever mankind went to in this universe, they'd spend the majority of their time fighting and killing each other!
No, sorry, give me Star Trek every time. Nice smart uniforms, good manners and the general idea that things could only get better!!!

Well, I think it was a refreshing change from the normal ''celebrity come skate in the jungle with me'' programming that's taken over lately.

Oh I 100% agree with you there, NazNomad! Being only a Freeview watcher I find that there may be fifty odd channels - but 9 times out of 10 there's precious little to watch on them. I'm not interested in Celebrities dancing, skating or insulting each other in the jungle, and I'm not interested in the hideous 'daily-doings' of Katie Price, Kerry Katona and the Essex bunch!

the Beeb don't do sci-fi, they are more period dramas.

I reckon the outcasts are the kiddie-winkies who had the halo glow and the culmination will be a giant battle between them and the settlers in week 53.with mother against daughter.

Why does everything about the story have to be explained from the start? Maybe the idea is that whilst watching the drama you make certain suppositions as to what it's all about and then there'll be a denouement which turns that all on its head. (Or maybe not, if it turns out to be c**p).

Fine line between holding an audience in suspense, then revealing the answers later on and trying to be clever/modern/edgy but ultimately boring and over complicated.
