this is a genuine query (as well as being one of my biggest bugbears)
on the radio (capital FM dont know about other stations) is an advert and it goes along the lines of:
LAST TUESDAY HALFWAY DOWN CHARNLEY ROAD IN BLACKPOOL, ONE ALARM CLOCK TURNED TO ANOTHER ALARM CLOCK AND SAID, 'I LOVE MY NEW JOB AS A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR' THE OTHER ALARM CLOCK CONSUMED WITH JEALOUSY SAID.................................. etc etc (you get the drift?
well - my Question is.............. i just dont 'get it' is it me? totally not funny and more to the point doesnt make sense? they have a variety of adverts such as....... 'one cheese grater said to another cheese grater, or one shower head said to another shower head etc etc......... i have asked numerous people why they use this particular scenario, and nobody knows? they all say 'blooody stupid advert, i just turn the volume down!'
But its on SO OFTEN i just cant keep doing that!
its a genuine question though - what are they trying to acheive by using household objects?
thanks in advance
dont have a cd player for those who may suggest i listen to them instead!

The whole point of the advert is that people who work usually use an alarm clock. If they wern't working as a fitness instructor (or whatever), they wouldn't need the clock. The alarm clock is supposed to be representative of the job and so next time the human gets a job, the alarm clock can say it is a teacher, sailor, clerk or whatever.
If they were to use cheese graters, then yes it would be meaningless, as these are not used in getting up. The shower heads could be used though, as many people have a shower before going to work.
