I remember Sat morning pictures. We all went to see Flash Gordon

I also remember when you could stay in and watch the film over and over and me and sis did this for `Summer Holiday` and when we came out it was dark and we couldnt remember our way back and took the wrong turning. I, being the youngest started crying and a man asked what was the matter and when explained to him he took us to a bus stop paid the driver our fare and told him where to let us get off and we would know our way from there. Mum had a fit when we walked in, although she was grateful to the gent who helped us. Wouldnt be like that today would it

We used to pay 9 pence [ in old money] to sit upstairs because the 9 pennies used to throw their ice lolly sticks [ and other missiles] down on the unfortunate sixpennies below.
those were the days and I am sure we were a lot more content with our lot than the kids are todays with all their computer games & gizmos.
You've made my day

Jem -you must have lived near me because Sargeant Turner was from Barking nick and gave the safety talks at all the locala schools as well. If we saw him out & about we always asked him to cross the road with us whether we really wanted to cross or not.Sgt Turner was one of those good old fashioned kindly bobbies who dont exist in our modern world.

I dont remember the song but I remember watching the old black and white Flash Gordon series starring Buster Crabbe every week.
I used to sit upstairs as well! In the posh seats! 'Champion the Wonder Horse bought back some memories! Do you remember ' The Lone Ranger' ( and Tonto)?
It was brill in those days & what value for money, a B movie,a Travelogue, Pathe News,Forthcoming Attractions & then the main feature Picture. Now you need a 2nd mortgage to see 1 film.Ron.
Dee - What a coinsidence, yes I came from Barking brought up there and if truth be told some of my roots are still existing there. I'm in S on Sea now.
Where abouts in Barking are you from, I know it pretty well. (that is I did) today its a different story.

Didn't pass 11 plus so didn't get to grammer school. I then went on to live on TVE loved it (then) oohhh! everything is so soo different today.
If you ever do come back, do not come back to Barking its more like Calcutta today,
believe me.
All those westerns and comedy films and the reel breaking in the middle of the film!!
Yeah Lottie, and the noise when the reel broke down was deafening. I loved the comedy ones Bud Abbot & Lou costello were my favs,
Didn't go much on Laurel & Hardy. How about "The Plank" with Eric Sykes? Hillarious.

jem
I liked the Western better Jem. Audy Murphy in most of them!!!
Tom Mix, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy I think I must have been into cowboy films in those days!!Oh and Lash Larue
