Has Ab Become More Racist?
54 Answers
I joined AB abut 8 years ago and perhaps it's my memory but I don't remember the constant stream of casual racism that we see now.
Every day we seem to have some story picked out of the press - allways regarding some crime comitted by a black youth or Asian man with the predictable chorus of complaint that why can't they be deported.
Almost as if crime was a purely racial issue.
Is this my memory playing tricks on me or has AB actually become a home from home for racial prejudice?

Personally i like to leave rubbish out of my thoughts and concentrate on the fun stuff. Others seem happy to avoid the fun stuff and concentrate on negative thoughts and things that upset them. Go figure.

Everyone is entitled to their views Jake, how is it that's its only from one particular country the the problem starts, do we hear the poles, Paddys, Scots, Taffs, I worked with a lot of the person I think you are referring to, & they have come to the same conclusion, 2 They are jumping on the band wagon" If you went into their country of ORIGEN would you get away with some of the statements / conduct these clowns get away with? Burning Poppies, kill the whites, death to the Westerners. there will be retaliation, them 3 in Birmingham last week, they were prepared to kill thousands, more than lkely I'll get slated for my views as I usualy do.
I haven't really thought about it. I guess the country as a whole is more down in the dumps due to current climate and you'll always need a scape goat or three for that sort of thing. Generally I'd say it's the same posters I always notice though, I don't think I've thought there's been an increase in particular.
I would say JtP that I feel talking about race, religion and immigration in a negative-not-necessarily-well-thought-out-way has become more accepted across the board in the media. Dave's government has been pushing some nasty angles for a little while and I think it tarnishes the air of any public debate.
Not that it was better under previous governments, just different.

//Everybody's entitled to their opinion//
Not if it entails encitement to racial hatred they're not!
Ed keeps a close watch but the continual low level drip tends to add up
In my opinion!
It's made me consider leaving on a few occasions - but for evil to triumph it's only necessary for good men to do nothing as Edmund Burke said.
But I just wondered whether other people shared my perception that it had increased.
Understandable - it's a recession, times are tight and in such times people always look for the outsider to blame.
Once it was Jews - now that's moved on
But maybe I'm just getting more sensitive to it

There have always been a few on here (especially in News) that I would consider racist or "borderline racist". Subjectively, at least, that number seems to have increased in the last year or so, as does the number of people making deliberately provocative remarks - the sort of remarks that I would normally associate with one-too-many-pints-in-the-pub loudmouths.
