Der Rosenkavalier
I'm not sure if anyone is interested but there is a stonking performance of
" Der Rosenkavalier " on Radio Three at the moment, with Renee Fleming singing her last Marschallin on a London stage. Yummy !

It seems appropriate to remind you of this though ;-)

Just seen this thread. Lucky enough to have seen Renee Fleming at Covent Garden in Rosenkavalier, back in 1998, I think it was - if pushed, I'd have to say it's my favourite opera, though not without its longeurs. Octavian was sung by the fantastic Susan Graham (can't remember who sang Sophie) - what a thrill that last trio was.....! Think I've seen it five times in all.
Just found your link, Mikey - thanks so much, and with the fab Susan Graham, too! First time I saw it was at ENO (with Diana Montague as Octavian) and that final trio was like an out of body experience; I just could not believe what I was seeing and hearing and thought I might faint or something. I was on my own, so had nobody to share it with. I went back the following week! I think that trio must be the most gorgeous thing ever to have sprung from someone's imagination.
Writing this while listening to the end of Opera from The Met's Romeo et Juliette - good stuff, never seen it. Another to add to the list.....
