He'll be much-missed but it was perhaps opportune that Radio 2's tribute to him was already in the schedule for this evening, so that his voice could be heard again only a few hours after he passed away.
^^^ I don't think that Radio 2 is quite that desperate to get rid of excellent presenters, Gromit (although Janice Long and Alex Lester might wonder about it!)
Desmond Carrington retired from broadcasting, at the age of 90, last October due to his health problems. (He had both incurable cancer and increasing memory problems through dementia). Tonight's programme was a tribute to his broadcasting career, rather than deliberately placed at the end of his life.
