I have probable answers to the last three but cannot understand the wordplay.
6d Issues over clubs making way for woman and son in Ireland , say . (11) - R?P?B?I?H?S--REPUBLISHES ? . 27d Boisterous girl's character ultimately failing to secure promotion (7) L?D?T?E -- LADETTE ? 49d Rise in defence imports ? The odds of that are zero. (5) - M?T?E -- MOTTE ?

6d Ireland is a REPUBLIC and replace the C [clubs] with SHE [woman] S [son]
27a character ultimately failing = LETTE(r), to secure promotion = put AD in the middle
49d remove the odd letters [i.e. make them zero] in iMpOrTs ThE to get MOTTE which is a defensive mound
