We had this accusation at the beginning of the show when a black competitor was voted out and now it seems to be happening once again.
Was there any need for the dance off because the Judges made it perfectly clear who they would vote through to the semi finals even before the two couples took to the floor?

Some of them yes, not all of them.
Because they represent a cross-section of society, and some people in society are racist.
But that does not automatically mean that people vote one way or another based on the colour of the skin of one competitor.
There is need for the dance-off because that is how the competition operates - to simply abandon it part way through would be to undermine the entire point of the contest, which is decided by votes from the viewing public.
This is a non-question based on a non-news story.

This is not a non-question based on a non-news story as you so rudely state.
No one , least of all me is suggesting abandoning it part way through, but I think that it should not be left to the judges to make the final decision after it has been put out to the viewer.
It should be dependant on the different amount of viewers votes for each couple.
As I have already pointed out the race ticket has been with SCD since the first competitor was eliminated, so for the race ticket alone this item should be open for debate.
So please stop trying to stifle debate on AB.

I hold the view that Debbie should Not be taking part in the show. She was a professional dancer.

Its nothing to do with racisim and more to do with egos.
Both ladies are professional dancers, Debbie was a ballet dancer all be it a long long time ago, but she is humble with the praise she gets, Alexandra has an ego the size of a small country and is a current professional dancer.
This program started for non dancers and it is how it should continue.

>>>don't think race has anything to do with the show, those that get booted off are voted off by the judges, those with lowest scores.
Not true at all.
Alexandra Burke had the HIGHEST score from the judges this week but it was the PUBLIC vote that put her in the bottom two.
I think this was more likely people not bothering to vote for her as they thought she would go through anyway.
Anyway as has been pointed out, look who won last year. No sign of racism there.

Then we can agree to differ - we each have our own opinion on the validity of the story.

I did not suggest that you did suggest abandoning the dance-off, but in this post, you have widened your position to advise that you think the judges' vote-off is unfair.
You asked "Was there any need for the dance-off ..." and the answer is clearly yes - because to by-pass it would negate its validity throughout the rest of the competition.
// As I have already pointed out the race ticket has been with SCD since the first competitor was eliminated, so for the race ticket alone this item should be open for debate. //
The 'race ticket', as you so delicately put it, is part of a media puff piece that surrounds hugely popular tv shows like this.
There is racism if anyone chooses to see it, and not if they don't.
// So please stop trying to stifle debate on AB. //
I would never attempt to stop debate on the AB - I merely offered an opinion - as part of the debate.

Sqad - // Burke will always be on the dance off......cus the majority of the public can't stand her. //
That may well be true - but I would suggest that that is the result of opinions about her personality, not the colour of her skin, as some sections of the media are trying to suggest, a viewpoint which AOG appears to think is valid.

Sqad - // A-H....you may well be correct. //
I think we are both correct here.
The nature of a show like this means that the viewers vote as much for the perceived personalities of the dancers, as for their abilities.
This argument is backed by the fact that someone like Susan Calman, who would probably be the first to admit, has the dancing grace of an infirm carthorse with chilblains, still gets voted through because the people like her.
The same perception allows someone like (The lovely) Debbie McGee to be voted through, probably to victory, because the public like her, and she dances very well, whereas Ms Burke, who is clearly a seriously talented dancer, is not voted for, because large sections of the public have not taken to her as a person based on her persona on the show.

Islay, there has always been people with professional dance traning and experience in Strictly - Claire Sweeney in series 1 and Jill Halfpenny in series 2, Patsy Palmer in series 3.
Most actors who went to arts or theatre schools had dance training.
Many people don't bother voting for the top scorers in Strictly believing they will be safe.
Ore Oduba, Louis Smith, Mark Ramprakash and Aliesha Dixon have won in past series; Denise Lewis, Colin Jackson, Natalie Gumede and Simon Webbe were runners up.
Skin colour has nothing to do with it.

Is it only 'racist' when a white person is not voted off? Is there a quota of non-white people who have to win? Just because people don't like someone doesn't mean they're automatically racist, that person may just be unpopular. When the word 'racist' is banded about as an excuse it is patronising to those it seeks to protect. I've never seen this programme by the way, don't know any of the names.

Your point is well-made.
I think it is easy for people see racism where none actually exists, and this is a case in point.
As past history shows, the viewers of SCD have no problem in voting through people from ethnic backgrounds, as I have pointed out, this is an attempt to generate a situation that actually does not exist.
