Malta Next Week

I am going to Malta next Friday and will be staying in St Juliens for a week.
I have guidebooks and have read lots of websites so I don't need links to them thanks.
What I am after are personal recommendations of what people feel are Do Not Misses!
We are early 50's, we like sightseeing and good food and drinks.
Are there any trips, areas, restaurants etc that people think are too good to miss when there?
Also, any local knowledge or tips that might not appear in guidebooks/ websites would be great.

A few years ago I holidayed in St. Juliens around this time of year.

Although pleasant enough, I can’t say that there was any must see/must do activity in Malta, and I cannot recall any restaurants to recommend.

If you really pushed me to say which one thing I’d recommend – it would be the Dingli cliffs.

My advice would be to hire a car for at least a couple of days to get around the island.

The problem with personal recommendations are they’re......personal. If you’re into ancient history then you’ll have a ball at places like Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum.
Mdina is a well preserved medieval town and Valletta has a character all of its own.

It's many years since I was in Malta but I'm sure that some things don't change. Valetta is definitely worth a visit but it's nearby Sliema which is more tourist-oriented and where you'll find loads of bars and restaurants.

A trip across to Gozo (45 minutes by ferry) is definitely worth it too. It's got a distinctive character all of its own.

go to the Mnajdra (or Tarxien or Ħaġar Qim) ancient ruins, take a bus to Mdina, see the ornate cathedral in Valletta. Valletta's interesting just to stroll round.

I've not been there, but I did hear a conversation at work the other day.

Apparently there is a trip available to the 'Blue Lagoon'. There was much hilarity about what a rip off it was, a total waste of time and money.

if you get a chance go to Gozo only a short hop away, lovely place to go and chill.

take the buses if you can, they are old and crotchety, at least the ones i went on were, but they were dead cheap and could get you all over the place.
Valletta is lovely as been said, you won't be short of places to eat. Malta has amazing history, conquered
by many people over the centuries.
