I always liked Freddie Starr ,I thought he was a comic genius, sadly he has gone and now it starts, why didn’t all these accusations come out when he was alive giving him a chance to defend himself, and before Baldric asks I can’t give details as I am on my iPad.

Isn't it the norm these days to malign celebrities when they die and are unable to defend themselves?
I believe most of the allegations I saw did come out whilst he was alive. He said the wrongful accusations ruined his life and was part reason he became almost a recluse in Spain
That's true Retro, but why does it all have to be repeated when a person dies.
I'm not sure why people wait until someone dies... but while it may not be appropriate on an RIP thread itself, it is fine not to like someone just because they have died. He came across as a creep, and people don't need to say otherwise now.
Pixie, he may have come across as a creep to you, but millions of people, including me, thought he was a very funny comedian.

Yes you are right retrocop, but it’s the latest accusations I am on about from his wife and daughter, why drag it all out in the public eye,is it a poor me syndrome?
Some people are creeps but are still alive.
Fair enough, Danny. But many people liked Rolf Harris and Jimmy Savile, who were also clearly creepy. There is no need to pretend to like someone just because they have died, sometimes you just get that feeling about them, that's all xx

Baza a very profound statement from you well said
Obvious though... and not relevant here.
I thought he was an excellent zany entertainer and could put most of today's so called 'stand up'comedians to shame. They just pace up and down like caged animals and shout and swear into a mike. Freddie Starr was both verbally and visibly a very versatile clown.I don't believe much about dirt slingers.
pixie if your comment referred to mine then I would suggest you suck on a lemon to improve your nature.
Lol :-)
He was a complicated and not terribly pleasant individual.
He was also a versatile and funny entertainer. The two are not two mutually exclusive.

There have been stories in the press about his life off-stage for almost as long as there have been stories about his life on-stage.
//He was a complicated and not terribly pleasant individual. //

I suppose that depends on who you choose to believe nd the motives for saying it. Any how. He can't refute them now.
And whether you ever actually met him.....
//. He can't refute them now.//
And therein lies the iniquity.
During my days in the police I met quite a few celebrities and none of them equated to their public personas, e.,g Ken Dodd wasn't manic and Freddie Frinton wasn't a drunkard.
You might have met him on an off day, jack. Could have been unpleasant, of course. I've no idea.
Freddie Starr was the best Elvis impersonator I've ever seen (plenty of them about) however accusations about people that have passed away is becoming wrongly or rightly less shocking to me.
