Who would you choose as the best frontman of a rock or pop group, Freddie Mercury has got to be up there, Mick Jagger is a bit weird imo, he dances really strangely and he puts on a strange squeaky type voice on, but I'm pretty certain he'd be in the top 5, Roger Daltrey, Jon Bon Jovi, Liam Gallagher, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison will be well placed, what is your favourite?

Blondie.
I would choose Michael Hutchence INXS. Loved their music and he was wonderful frontman.
Some of Cobain's best work was when he fronted Gun.
Robert Plant, loved Led Zeppelin since I was 13. I had pictures of him stuck on my school exercise books.
When my partner died I had their 'Thank You' played at his funeral.
Freddie Mercury, hands down the ultimate frontman.
Nobody ever held an audience in the palm of their hands like he did at the famous Wembley concert and Band Aid.
It's got to be Mick Jagger really - he has being doing it for decades. I wasn't even a Stones fan when I first went to see them but he is such an entertainer.
I think you meant best frontperson stpeter!
Definitely Freddie Mercury in first place. Love Debbie Harry and Michael Hutchence too.
margarettom - if you like Michael Hutchence, the film Mystify (about his life) is on BBC 4 tonight followed by an INXS concert.
If your definition of a 'frontman' is restricted to performers who are/were only vocalists, then any of the names already mentioned would come near to the top of my list.

However if the definition is extended to include lead guitarists/vocalists, then Mark Knopfler might be my main candidate for the title (with Eric Clapton being a close runner-up).
Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top)
Does Mick Jagger play any instruments ?
Phil Lynott...drool
Thanks for info 237SJ. That is my evening sorted watching Michael Hutchence film.
Rod Stewart ( Faces ).
Must admit that I was surprised to hear the lyrics, "moves like Jagger". Never occurred to me that strange gyrating could be considered "moves". That aside though, he was ok. Apart from that, I'll sit on the fence. Never studied frontsmanship to come up with a list. They're all good aren't they, having the confidence to do the job.
Bono.
I know he’s not everyone’s favourite person, but he’s a fantastic showman. That concert on top of a building in America back in the early 90s (or late 80s?) was amazing.
Noddie Holder
I'd agree with Freddie, and I'm not much of a Queen fan. Saying "frontman" rather than "lead singer" is important, as that includes Freddie's flamboyance and stage presence, on top of his vocal prowess.

My top five would be

Freddie Mercury
Mick Jagger
Jim Morrison
Jarvis Cocker
Robert Plant.

Also mentions to Bono, Ozzy, David Lee Roth, Axl Rose and Steven Tyler.
