Mould in my workplace.

I work in an office right next to the window and my mate who sits opposite me discovered mould on the window coloum it was covered by a brochure standing up against it.
I understand how its made but would it had an effect on my and colleauges health.
(I once watched an 'extreme makeover home edition where the dad had died after inhaling mould in the basement he was working in!!!)
It was black furry and yuk.
