Cleaning hair straightners

I have some ceramic hair straightners that I use daily. However the plates have started going brown, I'm assuming that's because of hair products but I can't wipe it off. I've only tried cleaning it with a damp tissue and thought I'd better ask before starting to use random products. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks xxx

Do your straighteners have white plates? I had a pair that went brown and the hair dresser told me to run a damp towel between the plates when they are hot, so I did and they went alot better but I think most of the brown were burn marks. I now have a pair of GHD and they have no marks at all. What straighteners do you have?

They are the babyliss thin ones. Do u know if the 'burn' marks affect performance?

No I don't think so. I had the PBM ones and apparently many others went the same but they still worked fine for me. Do the still feel smooth? If so then you shouldn't have a problem, but try doing the towel thing as like you say it may also be a build up of hair products.

cuddlycat as soon as your irons cool down, clean them, you can normally scratch off any products that have burnt to them I do this every time with my GHDs and they work fine. It does impair performance if you leave the burnt stuff on them.
