instant dislike

Has anyone taken an instant dislike to someone even though you have not spoken to that person. There is a woman at school when picking up children and I have taken an instant dislike to her .I have not had any conversation with her she is probably a very nice person but I still feel if she does speak I will still dislike her.It is horrible to think like that as I get on with people.

Any number of reasons can make others react in the way that you have, but I've found from experience that fears are often unsubstantiated. Do you feel threatened by her in any way? try a friendly "hello" and see if you get any reaction - x
I hate myself for doing it, but I've taken an instant dislike to some people and my gut instinct is usually right.
There is a woman I see at the gates of my son's school, and like you, I've never spoken to her but my hackles rise whenever I see her. My private nickname for her is Young Fat Frump. This will make me sound like a total bitch but everything about her winds me up. She must be colour blind as she often wears an electric blue coat with tartan leggings and red flat lace up shoes. Her hair is never combed, she wears 80's Dierdre Barlow specs and looks like a simpleton as she is a mouth breather.
I don;t know her daughter's name as she calls her "Princess". At school disco's/school fairs she elbows other mums out of the way so "Princess"can be first in line for everything.
I wish I could explain these feelings but I can't.
I'm normally a nice person......honest!

Awwww...Mrs. O - nickname her "Rainbow" - she sounds like a pretty colourful character!
I know just what you mean about the "pushy" type of parents though, but at the end of the day, she just wants her child to do well, or to make her mark.
I also follow my gut instincts, but I never judge a book by its cover. Perhaps the woman can't afford to turn out in matching clothes - or maybe she's just colour blind, or has no fashion sense!! Still, a school's a school, not for women to parade as clothes horses., but it's true - sometimes there's no explanation for taking an instant dislike to someone.

I am usually a very good judge of character but on occasion I do take an instant dislike to people.I have yet to find myself proved wrong though.
A few years ago I was a member of an MSN group and some other members had put photos of themselves on there.there was one woman who I remarked to a friend looked a bit shifty and untrustworthy.I had no basis for this feeling/judgement,just the photo. It transpired several months later that my gut instinct about this woman was absolutely spot on.(by this time I had met her in person and still didn't like her).

How's this for coincidence?
I've just had a call from a friend asking me to collect her son when I collect Junior O from school today.
I mentioned Young Fat Frump to her and she immediately launched into a rant.
My friend has nickednamed her "Jaws" (the woman does have a protruding lower jaw).
I asked my friend why she dislikes this woman and she admitted she couldn't say why, but said she gets the odd urge to slap her.
I feel better that it's not just me!

Well animals take instant dislike to other animals so why can't we. I think it might be a 'type' we instantly dislike rather than a person, usually associated with the way they dress, mannerisms, etc, e.g Mrs O's rainbow woman. And I agree, sometimes it's just because they look like somebody we already don't like.
