Strictly for younger viewers?

It does seem strange that the BBC should meddle with as successful a show as Strictly Come Dancing. Why change a winning team and all that? But more importantly why focus on winning younger viewers - by replacing Arlene with Alesha, by timing the Saturday night show against X Factor, by making Alesha up to look like Cheryl Cole, etc? Strikes me that Strictly's greatest strength is in its broad appeal, to all types of people and, more importantly, to all ages. So why risk losing older viewers in favour of attempting to win or keep younger ones?

I am completely in agreement with you chirpy - you would think that an organisation like the BBC would know better - obviously more threatening by x factor than it should be. Their fans are different and they should know that by now

The BBC is run by a bunch of Luvvie Media Graduates who have to wear scarves inside and carry a clipboard.!!

Why focus on winning younger viewers? Erm something to do with the fact that if they didn't, all their viewers would eventually be dead.

Ask many youngsters what they think of SCD and they will say 'it's gay' or 'no way it's an oldies show' - I use those remarks because those were two used in my 11 year old nephews class last week in a discussion group about the show. That is why the BBC are right to change tact.
