Don't get me wrong here, I like them, I said yesterday I am going to Bulgaria (doing a friend a big favour) it is not in the Tourist area but more in the mountains, after taking a look at this little villagey place, there is an
IRISH PUB there !
it is way off the beaten track this place, how would they get their Guinness there, by donkey?
I am very intrigued ,
well done the Irish, I say

If I spot any kind of clover leaf symbol, guiness sign or quintisentially Irish name such as 'Murphys' or 'Dohertys' above the entrance to any bar I give it a very wide birth. dont do plastic paddy pubs.
Question Author
arh very good advice Boold, we went to one in Rome and it was , as you say, a Plastic Paddy's, also in Poland, do you think they say "I know, I will say this pub is Irish"?

Speaking of pubs Bobbie we were up your way In Amble last week end and one of the things we noticed was that they still had PROPER pubs, where you could just go for a drink, chat, play cards or dominoes etc with out having to dodge people having their dinner
Question Author
beautiful part of the UK paddy, Amble, the coastline in Northumbria has to be the best in Britain, did you stay there?
These will be Bulgarian Irish I think Planks, the mind boggles :-)
Druridge Bay is lovely. Theres also another 'hidden away' beach further up the coast we go to when I stay at my sisters. That water park type thing is nice as well - is that Amble?
Question Author
I would think that is Kielder Boold, Amble is still a fishing village, and yes Druridge is gorgeous
Question Author
where does your sister live,
there is Seahouses, Beadnall Craster,???
well its not a water park as such - had water feautures, nice gardens etc. Alnwick - thats it! I've not been to Kielder, as a keen mountain biker I'd have rememered! Will pack my bike next time and ride Kielder and revisit Glentress on way up to inlaws in Scotland.
I'm not knocking the one in Amsterdam. I was on a cycling charity thing and we were staying in hostels. Breakfast over there seemed to consist of rabbit food, yoghurt, something they described as bread and rubbery cheese of varying thicknesses and texture. I was very grateful for the nearby Irish pub where I could get a full English (well they called it Irish, but it was English) and follow it up later with Guiness which was my regular tipple.

Arhh Alnwick (pronounced Annick) Gardens, beautiful there with the castle overlooking it
my sister lives in Bedlington. She keeps trying to get me to move up there. I have elderly parents down here and want to be local to them. Maybe when the time comes, Mrs Booldawg would love to move up. Lovely part of the world, I'm happy to go!
Question Author
hi posty, why do they do this, I wonder!

Boold I know Bedlington,

yes we have a fab coastline dotted with villages and regal castles, have you visited Morpeth and Hexham?
lol posty, under those circumstances I wouldve done the same!

bobs, my nephew goes to school in Morpeth, have been there a few times. Its a lovely old town. We've done alot of the coast line between Holy Island to Whitley Bay. I'd love to cycle it! Visited Bamburgh castle, so much more to explore.
Question Author
very rugged up there Boold, a lot of the Catherine Cookson adaptations are filmed there, you must visit Beamish when you're next here
Bobbie, five of us,all thats left of our sea fishing club, have a week-end away every year.We stopped in the Schooner for three nights and did nothing all week end but tour the area and drink. Visited Seahouses and Berwick, called in at the place we used to stop at, The Black Bull in Lowick, then diverted into Craister and ordered a load of kippers. In regards to the Irish pubs one of the places we visit every couple of years is Cobh and thats another place where most of the pubs have managed to stay as pubs we particularly like the Roring Donkey partly I think because of the name but mainly it's a good old fashioned pub
Question Author
slap my wrist with a wet kipper Padds :-(((
you spelled Craister right and I didn't, and I live up here..LOL
I know the Schooner pub
Don't slap your self too hard Bobbie, If you check you'll see I made the mistake
It's the 'in thing' to be Irish these days. There are sad people who say they are Irish just because some distant relative was from Ireland because they think it is 'cool'.
