BBC2 Drama from 1990s

Sketchy details as follows: 'World' was possibly in the title, and it was about a nerdy teenager, maybe called Simon Willerton (?). Some parts I vaguely remember - him saying something like "I am the ghost of Macaroni!" to a girl who was his only real friend, a guy telling him he'd better off dead and to kill himself & someone chanting "Grass! Grass! Grass!" at him (possibly in prison) after he'd 'grassed' to the police. I think it may also have been based on a true story.
