I thought he would survive, too good to kill off, and that he had somehow switched with the dead body of Moriarty, and that's who fell, the other thread gives better explanations.
I haven't read any of the links and extras but I guess that was why he was being nice to the lab-monkey, who would be in a position to manipulate medical records and pathology samples.
Plus, he's Sherlock Holmes. He doesn't die.
Only saw the end of it. Folk don't tend to survive falls like that. I think they must have forgotten the mattresses.
As redhelen pointed out, in the original story he was never supposed to survive, and the outrage was such Conan had to think of a reason things were not as they seemed. Well same for this modernised version I suppose. Maybe he'll step out of a shower and it'll all be a dream al la Dallisty or whatever.
No we saw him at the end, as Watson had walked away from his supposed grave, he was there in the background, with that faraway enigmatic look, the other thread has lots of good theories, perhaps have a read.
i have a theory. remember that dummy he hanged during the episode. Maybe that was what had fallen and he might have got that doctor women to create a mask or something like that. afterall, he is sherlock holmes. he can do that
