Are the health issues these people are suffering directly related to their cronic obesity? If they were smokers with cancer they would be expected to stop smoking.

Someone in the paper the other day was complaining that smokers were being treated like lepers because smoking has become so socially unacceptable. If it shames a few more into giving up, then so be it. It is a filthy, smelly, expensive habit that few can truly afford and it is bad for their and everyone elses health and a drain on the NHS when they become ill. The same needs to happen for obese people. It should be unacceptable for people to be such a drain on their councils and the NHS. When these people are so huge they are housebound who continues to feed them the vast quantities of food they consume. It is nothing short of neglect that they are allowed to get worse. The authorities should step in and force them to diet, at the end of the day it would be for their own good.
