Ashes, mixing, scattering and transporting
6 Answers
I hope I this doesn't offend anyone by sounding flippant, it's not meant to be. As many know both my in-laws died within 5 weeks of each other last year. My wife and her brothers have more or less decided to scatter some of their ashes in Cornwall and some in Kent. I thought the easiest way is to mix the ashes, and re-seal the bags. Taking one “mixed” bag to Cornwall and the other to Kent. The snag is we’ll be flying to Cornwall so would need to get through security - I can’t risk the ashes in checked in luggage. So, we need a means of re-heat sealing both original poly bags. We have the covering certificates. According to the Funeral director, the Crematorium wouldn’t do it [though I haven’t asked yet]. Or is it simpler to post them down to Cornwall. Just a little worried that once the ashes are out of our hands, they could get lost. Any ideas please? Thanks

The couriers that I have contacted will not knowingly transport human ashes - not because there is any restriction in Europe regarding the transportation of ashes, merely that they would not want to run the risk of losing them.
As your post was published some months ago, may I respectfully ask if you have already scattered the ashes and how you finally transported them? Would you also be prepared to share with us whether this ritual helped give any of you closure?

Sorry, I meant to update this, we took some of the ashes down to Cornwall - as hand / cabin luggage. Providing you have the paperwork [death and cremation certificates] the airline & airport security were quite happy. We found a quiet place where both loved to sit and watch the sea. It has helped my wife a bit. Thanks for all your concerns
