I thought it was good right through, but was a bit disappointed with the end, particularly as Cribben stayed behind, and I don't believe for one mo (even in the paranormal world) that Nancy would have asked him to join her & the kids....
I did enjoy it, and read the book at the same time. I thought it was a reasonably good adaptation, (although I don't remember Devon every being 'up north') but the ending was nothing like the book! In the book,
Stefan was murdered first and thrown down the well (I think!) and then Cribben went on to strangle all the other children one by one. Yes, future inhabitants of the house did hear the swish-thwack of Cribben's cane. I don't normally enjoy ghost stories, but I did think this one was quite good.

I think that the only reason I had any clue about what was going on in the last episode was because I have read the book! At any rate the book was much more scary than the tv adaptation made it out to be - I did wonder how the BBC were going to adapt it, bearing in mind that a fair amount of the story revolves around sado-masochistic abuse.
