Just seen the second episode on BBC2 - Michaell Portillo is in Northern Italy this time.

An intelligent and amusing traveller - he has made a thoroughly engaging programme.

There is some lovely photography too - well worth seeking out on iPlayer.

The first one was in Spain, Madrid to Gibraltar via Cordova - really good.
i wish he had spent more time in venice and shown more of that fascinating place.

I've got that recorded Boxy - haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
I want to go to Venice, before it sinks :-(

Yes, I like his railway programmes.
boxy - venice is well worth all the trouble in getting there. so very much to see all around you.
Boxy, after numerous visits I'm all Veniced out now - but do go. It's unique.
I've been to Venice, lovely city. When I went it was a bit on the whiffy side though and expensive.
Having just finished Dan Brown's Inferno, his descriptions have made me even more keen!
