Well that about says it all, he just does not know, so I would like to ask him, it it happened to be thousands, what alterations to the infrastructure has he and the coalition party taken to accommodate these increased numbers.

Quite right , AOG. Infrastucture is always needed, and it needs to be improved when a large number of newcomers arrive anywhere. The wonder is that towns in the Cambridgeshire fens coped, but they did get everything sorted out. There the worst impact was on schools for young children, because immigrant workers were young and therefore had young children. But we coped and everything became normal again, and we had the benefit of people who would work, particularly in the fields, in jobs which local people were unable, because of shortage of labour or incapacity, or unwilling to do.

Countries who are likely to be net recipients of large numbers of migrants have absolutely no idea how many people are likely to arrive and what effect they will have on the nation's economy, infrastructure and general well being. As Fred says, eventually things settle down (though in some areas not as readily as others, and in some, I would argue, not at all) but in the meantime the population already here are largely left to get on with it and suffer the consequences.
