Last night's gripping episode of Ripper Street was the last ever. There are hopes that the series may be rescued by an online petition, but i do not hold my breath as the Great God of Ratings has spoken and reality shows - or brain-dead tv as i prefer to call them - win out. Though the official line is that RS has been dropped "in order to make room for creative renewal and new ideas." Following on the heels of Waking The Dead, this is yet another blow for lovers of tv drama shows.

i loved the first series but didn't like this one

We definitely do not need any more reality rubbish and I am sad that ripper street will be no more although I agree with mcfluff, this series has been a bit of a disappointment. Sadly, reality brain dead rubbish is cheaper to make than a good drama and can also make money with vote offs etc. so I can't see them disappearing any time soon.

I don't watch Ripper, but I did like Waking the Dead - all we can hope is that it's not replaced with more reality drivel.

Like the both of you, i preferred the first series, but i also really enjoyed this one, especially with the appearances of John Merrick in the earlier episodes. It remains to be seen just what this "creative renewal and new ideas" brings.

I really liked Ripper Street.

I'm fed up with they way that decent, well made British dramas are being dropped in favour of garbage reality programmes.

Sherlock is due back on 1 Jan, apparently, with 2nd episode on 5 Jan, then 3rd episode on 12 Jan. Which is great news, but still does not lessen the blow of the loss of yet another fine series.

Looking forward to Sherlock but that will probably only be 3 or 4 episodes. I did hear that they were making more Peaky Blinders which is good.

I've never seen Waking the Dead.

I almost feel insulted that the TV companies are churning out more and more brain-dead telly.

I'm all for a bit of balance, I have no objection to one or two reality/talent shows but it seems to be all we get these days.

Almost sure i read somewhere that the intention with Sherlock is to keep each series at just the three episodes. Which may just guarantee a little longevity - fingers crossed.
