Hello, I'm sure I've seen this pop up on here from time to time and I wondered if a DVD set would make a good present for a relative who loved programmes like Inspector Morse and A Touch of Frost, and programmes like like Bergerac back in the day :) Is it that type of programme?

Thanks for any help :)

The only problem I can see is that you have to read the sub titles all the time as it's in Italian. Not everyone likes to do this. They are usually murder plots and there's always some bonking!!!!!
I enjoy all those mentioned and I love Montalbano, the only reservation you should have is would the viewer like subtitles.
I think the Inspector Montalbano character appeals more to the ladies than the gents, though I do find the series entertaining and very Italian.
It was originally intended for Sicilian adults as an English learning programme but it became popular amongst the general public.
He's nothing like Frost or Morse .It's set in Sicily .Think mafia, corruption and bumbling Italian policemen all set in brilliant sunshine . He loves good food and leads a complicated life with his lover. The books are brilliant .The TV series was wonderful .

Young Montalbano series was great.

Thanks all :) Ahh I've googled and there are two! Is The Young Moltabano in Italian in subtitles too? Don't think that would be too much of a problem though. She liked Poirot too though it looks like this one has a bit more sex appeal :)

Hell, I might get it :)
Yes Young Montalbano is in Italian with sub titles.
Young Montalbano is also subtitled. We love these two series, and I have one boxed set, there are a few. If you decide not to go with the DVDs you might think about trying the books by Andrea Camilleri, they are worth a read or perhaps as a talking book?

Thank you, nice language to be in though.
They're both subtitled - which personally puts me off, as half the time I listen to the televison rather than watching it. It's good, but very different from the British ones you mention.
What could have more sex content than Poirot/Hastings or Holmes/Watson? Oh, I see what you mean Eve. Get the Young Montalbano set :-)
Perhaps Inspector Wexford (if not sot seen it)

Perhaps the Norse Morse might appeal if she likes Inspector Morse .
Henning Mankells Wallander series .The ones with Krister Henriksson are brilliant .
Question Author
Ah yes, Inspector Wexford, had forgotten about him! Yes, she like him too. Good suggestion, thanks Psybbo :)

Thanks Shaney, will definitely look into them. Been lain up with a nasty tummy bug for the last couple of days so panicking a bit as behind in my shopping (not just from me either) so very grateful for the advice and suggestions.
