Why is it in the soaps like Eastenders or Coronation street the fronts doors are secured with just a yale key and not a mortice lock?  Surely a good kick would open the door very easily

Being a police officer I can assure you it is not hard to kick a door in with a five lever mortice. I hope I haven't given the opportunist burglar and ideas!!!

The best lock will be solid steel bolts at both the top and bottom of the door.

..it's because it's a pretend house on a pretend street/square , with pretend residents...
