Do You Ever Forget To Lock The Front Or Back Door

How often do you forget to lock your front door or back door. We don't forget that often but last night my son left his car keys on the shelf outside and we left the back door on the latch. Obviously mortified this morning I was wondering if this is a natural occurrence in families.

I once left the keys in the lock of the front door when out for the dog's morning walk. Happily, they were there when we got back. And I noticed a neighbour along the street once did the same thing.

In our last house we never locked the doors!! and the keys were often left in the ignition. I once went on holiday without locking any doors, not something I ever worried about. Where we live now we keep the doors locked as it is a part of Manor house, the other part is vacant and up for sale and we wouldn't want nosey people walking through our front door.

One time we woke up to a stranger asleep on the sofa. My OH woke him up with a What The Funicular....he was drunk and got the wrong house. He was soooo sorry you couldn't be angry.

Another time my son woke me up saying 'there's a man asleep on the living room floor, he's been sick, he has ginger hair, I think it might be XYZ'

I lock the door most nights but my eldest son ALWAYS loses his door key, if he's not home I leave the door open for him, but often he doesn't come home. I should just lock him out...

Never, there has be a spat of theft's in this town lately, opportunist, one person I know could hear someone trying his front door at 2am, scared them off when he put the lights on, when we go away we always remove the 2nd se car keys + other keys away from the rack they are in now as they are inn view of out back kitchen window. I have also fitted a Security & CCTV to the house, also a sign to the effect, It's bad when you have to go to these measures to protect your house.

All our doors are locked up at night and I don't think we've ever forgotten it's part of the going to bed routine. If one of us is out late then the porch is left unlocked but all else is locked up so you look after your keys or spend the night in the porch.

I've left my keys in my car door once, while I went for a walk. I was astonished to see them when I came back as I am normally so paranoid about checking things like doors and locks.

I have never forgotten to lock the house up at night. Its my daily ritual before i wind the wall clock up.

A few years ago I had four jack Russells, one night I was asleep in bed when I heard them go ballistic and woke the entire neighbourhood, I immediately ran down stairs to find all the dogs gone and the cat flap destroyed and the back gate open, clearly someone had come in through the gate into the garden and the dogs gave chase, they always used the cat flap but this time they wrecked it to get out through lol. I bet that guy thought twice befor entering another garden, my dogs would have given him hell!!!

Lol peter, I dnt suppose they knew I had dogs until the opened the garden gate.

I dont think they would attempt it now, our hounds are about 7ft tall when stood looking over the garden gate! :-)

Yes to my cost. I had been walking Mr Harv one summer night about 3 years ago - in my haste to get him in and start tea - I left keys in the door - that night (I know exactly what happened) - key was taken out of door and my car was stolen that night.

It was found 6 months later in a little village about 2 hours drive away.

For nearly 12 years the only times we locked the doors were if we took Max out with us.Max was extremely protective about "his" house to the point where he would not let anybody into the house including family if Trish or myself weren't there and lets face it not many people are willing to tackle a very large hairy GSD when he's in full defensive mood,

I can still be careless from time to time...I've left the keys in the door only once...but the patio door will be my downfall.....

Our house in Ireland never had a locked door and often there would be a man asleep on the settle in the morning.....they could cycle that far from the pub but couldn't make it up the hill behind the house....

It was the same when we lived in England in the 50s....in a row of all the same council houses until my mother got up in the night and found the minister from three doors along sitting, trouserless, on the loo in a drunken stupor.

Luckily haven't done this so far, but many years ago we with other family members went off on holiday in the UK. Two weeks of fun and lovely scenery, came back and found that the last person out did not lock the front door, luckily it was on a push down handle to get in but it wasn't locked! Had nightmares after that lucky escape and have (so far) never done that again! I blame the relatives of course lol.

I take offence at that. I'm Manchester born and bred, still live there and I've never been burgled although I often forget to lock up.
Crime happens everywhere so please don't give Manchester a worse reputation than it already has.
