This is a program I do not normally watch but I was advised to do so tonight by my niece, who is a midwife.
I resume that the birth deformities that are being shown is due to Thalidomide. The close up of the little baby Susan was very detailed...does anyone know how this was achieved ?
amazing and wonderful how the attitude to babies (and adults) with disabilities has changed...and it all started with the amazing courage of their parents.
Sorry, that was in response to Gavmacp's point ans wasn't meant to detract from the sentiments of the thread regarding the portrayal of the thalidomide issue
It's strange how things change - a friend has Myeloma (blood cancer) and she is being treated with thalidomide. Who would have thought it would come in useful eventually.
I seem to recall seeing a program on the Beeb, that showed that birth defects were beginning to come back in South America ( I think ! ) because Thalidomide was being used for something there. There were not enough checks being undertaken to make sure it wasn't being taken by women of child-bearing age. Seems daft to me.
